I am a G5 in Comparative Politics. My dissertation investigates the politics of decline in historically leading economies: Why were economies with successful, liberal institutions unable to sustain their successes? How did their earlier growth contribute to changes in domestic politics that paved the way towards decline? I am mostly a Western-Europeanist with a historical focus, but am also reasonably knowledgeable about historical China and Japan. I would love to supervise any thesis that uses historical methods, both quantitative and qualitative. Finally, I have spent two enjoyable semesters working closely with student writing in Gov 97 (Sophomore Tutorial), and look forward to bringing that experience to thesis advising.
