Hi! My name is Shireen Younus and I'm a senior in Pforzheimer House completing a Joint Concentration in Government and Comparative Religion. I’m also getting a language citation in Hindi-Urdu. I live in Baltimore, Maryland, but my family is originally from Pakistan. I'm very passionate about U.S. politics and international politics (hence, the Government concentration), but I especially have an interest in Islamism, and that's the focus field I'm writing my senior thesis on now.

Outside of my academic work, I'm very involved in the Harvard Crimson. I wrote a column for three semesters, served as Comp Director of the Editorial Board, and now work as Op-Eds Editor. I was also involved with the Institute of Politics for a bit, and was chair of the Politics of Race and Ethnicity program during the 2018 year. I'm still really passionate about diversifying both of these spaces, so if you have any interest in either of these orgs definitely reach out! In my time away from Harvard, I've focused my work in the nonprofit sector, and have worked at a refugee clinic here in Boston, the ACLU, and the National Organization for Women.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about the concentration, and especially if you are interested in adding a joint concentration or a secondary. I added my Religion concentration junior year and it was one of the best decisions I've made at Harvard - it compliments Gov perfectly and has allowed me to both broaden my scope and deepen my focus. I'm always happy to discuss classes, extracurriculars, or internships. Harvard can be hard to navigate, so if you ever have any questions, definitely send an email!
