Class of 2020 (Lowell House)
Hello! My name is Mikael Tessema and I am a senior in Lowell House from Bridgeport, Connecticut. I concentrate in Government with a focus on political theory, and I am (tentatively!) writing a thesis on the relationship between equity and egalitarianism. Outside of class, I spend most of my time at the Small Claims Advisory Service at PBHA, the study group program and youth polling group at the Institute of Politics, and the Lowell HoCo. In the past I’ve written for the Harvard Political Review, staffed Model UN conferences, and been on the board of Primus, Harvard’s first-generation/low-income advocacy group.
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about studying Government. I remember being worried about not taking a class in the department until sophomore fall, so I’m happy to help you weigh your options wherever you are starting from. I’m also happy to discuss any research opportunities, extracurriculars, or internships available for Government concentrators that you might be interested in. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to discuss anything about the department or life at Harvard over food!
