PhD Candidate in Government
MMS

Hello! My name is Manuel and I am a PhD candidate in the Gov Department. Many years ago, I wrote my own undergrad thesis here at Harvard. In my current work, I examine how democracy works in places that are dominated by criminal organizations. But more generally, I am interested in political parties, crime, democracy and authoritarianism, state-building, and political institutions. My region of focus is Latin America, with an emphasis on Mexico and Central America. I think your thesis is a great opportunity to showcase everything you've learned as a Gov concentrator. But more importantly, I think your thesis is a unique opportunity to explore a topic that you care deeply about. So my goal as a thesis advisor is to help you write a thesis that is both well-written and personally meaningful. I look forward to hearing from you!
