Class of 2022 (Leverett House)
Hi everyone! My name is Garrett Rolph and I'm a junior in Leverett House concentrating in Government with a secondary in Education Studies. I'm originally from Buffalo, South Dakota and I'm really looking forward to being a Peer Concentration Counselor this year! I hope you'll reach out to me with any questions you have (whether that's related to Gov, Ed Studies, or anything else)!
Because the Gov department can be a really big place, I'll tell you a bit about what I am particularly interested in. My main academic interests lie in examining public education and the effect that the government's investment (or lack thereof) has on school systems and on students' outcomes in particular. I am also interested in American government in general since I hope to be a civics educator after graduation. Because of these factors, some of my favorite classes in the department so far have been Controlling the World's Most Dangerous Weapons (Gov 1735; Kennedy School's IGA-232), Educational Ethics taught by Professor Fay (Gov 1033), and Constitutional Law (Gov 1510), which is taught by Harvard Law School's Professor Fallon.
Outside of class, I'm quite involved in technical theater and Camp Kesem. I've filled the position of Stage Manager for West Side Story, assistant Technical Director for West Side, as well as Technical Producer, Tech Director, and Stage Manager for shows in spring 2020. I also worked for Lowell House Opera and helped with the construction of their set. For Camp Kesem I have been a counselor for two years now, and this past year I was co-Outreach coordinator, where it was my responsibility to work with my co-chairs to conduct outreach to camper families and ensure that they knew about upcoming events and deadlines, and to keep the community connected over the school year.
Please feel free to reach out if with questions regarding Government, Education Studies, or anything else that I've listed. I'm looking forward to speaking with you!
